January 24th, 2009

So being inspired by [info]spikydave , I plan to recount 2008.  I don't keep a journal, and if this is what passes for it, my life has been pretty uneventful except where events devour my life.  So I'm gonna try to give the rundown of the year.  I'm probably going to do it month by month.

The ambitious part of me wants to have it all ready to do 2009 as the 12 days of christmas, so I'll have december finished on january 6. :)

But the reminder part says I should do it now.  Some of the posts may be restricted depending on content, but I still want to put it out there that I'm planning on it so if I'm slow, possibly my friends might annoy me to go faster ;)

Wizard Needs Food Badly

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

I know that you're probably mad at me.
I've come to expect that.
You know that you'll never have all of me,
you've come to resent that.
You say "tomato", I say "video games",
you're acting so solemn.
You'll take the precious remote control from me.
Do I sound like Gollum?
(It's) not that I'm escaping,
you charm me like the flame does moths,
it's just that you'd prefer me docile,
like a narcoleptic sloth.

The wizard needs food badly,
the Voltron can't be incomplete.
The things I love, you hate so madly,
I must not go down in defeat.

In the hunter-gatherer societies,
I'd bring home the bacon.
Public thought says men should try and be tame,
stirred but not shaken.
I say "baseball" then you start to cry,
I'm sorry I grieve you.
I think a motorcycle's a good way to die,
this must bereave you.
I know that you try so hard,
and I'm not saying it's a sin,
it's just that they don't feel my pain,
in Vogue or Cosmopolitan.

And I'm sure you have your reasons,
but listen to me please...
I want the G.I. Joe with the Kung-Fu action grip.
I want Nintendo with the extra-graphics-microchip.
Tackle football with rocks,
and sticks, and knives, and pain...
I want a truck with the four wheel drive train.
You'd rather see me get good at bookkeepping,
I could clean house in the time that I'm not sleeping.
I live to serve you, and I don't want to be rude,
but you should see that the wizard needs food.

Apparently McGreevey was having threesomes with his wife and another man for "about two years" during their courtship and into their marriage.

So the Eiffel Tower has come to Trenton.

Awesome.

I'm pretty torn between Hillary and Obama. this article makes me think that maybe if the LGBT folks are behind Obama, maybe I should be too. Clinton wants to repeal the part of DOMA that forbids federal recognition of same sex marriage, but leave in the Full Faith and Credit exception that permits states to not recognize marriages validly executed in other states. That is EXACTLY what is wrong with DOMA. A half assed repeal isn't going to make anyone happy. That half-assed-ness is what got us into don't ask, don't tell.

On the other hand, this piece of propaganda really turns me off. It highlights the religious reverie that is so present in Obama's rhetoric. People get all starry eyed because he is saying things that we want to hear, in a voice that we want to hear it.

Slate.com's political gabfest raised an interesting issue. Obama seems to do extraordinarily well with rallies and huge events where he gets to use his preacher voice (my characterization). However, Obama's press conferences and interviews don't impress people nearly as much. Is this all some sort of fascistic prelude of what's to come? Even if he has managed to unite the left under one banner, isn't that crowd just a little frightening?

[Anacharsis] laughed at [Solon] for imagining the dishonesty and covetousness of his countrymen could be restrained by written laws, which were like spiders' webs, and would catch, it is true, the weak and poor, but easily be broken by the mighty and rich.

It's funny when your worlds collide...

also funny how astute it is, considering that nowadays the law is often called a "seamless web."

Perhaps Plutarch was on to something.

Also, the title of this post is a reference to the 7 wise men of ancient Greece. I can't remember the last two.

Hi people.
LJ said this to me when I logged in:

You've only made 1 friend.
Find Friends and Communities

To be honest, LJ is not a priority for me. I had a blog or two or three before. I find it rather time consuming and not very rewarding.

I dunno if LJ will be any different, since the whole model seems much more introspective (while simultaneously a community clusterfuck). Anyway, I do in fact have more than one friend on LJ... I just dunno if it matters enough for me to keep posting any more than this once.
